Until March 2006 I led the research group AI/Cognition (KI/Kognition) at the computer science department of Technical University of Munich. The group is part of the chair for Theoretical Informatics and Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (TIKI), headed by Prof. Wilfried Brauer. The group's current main foci are on agent and multiagent systems, knowledge and ontologies in open environments, and spatial cognition and artificial neural networks. My main interests have been in computational intelligent and autonomous systems in general, and in the foundations and application of agent and multiagent technology in particular. I published widely in this area, with a focus on software engineering issues raised by this type of systems and technology, on automated knowledge-based interaction (including cooperation, competition, communication and ontologies), and on machine learning. Among the 10 books I co/edited in the area is the reference volume "Multiagent Systems" (MIT Press). I am the editor-in-chief of the book series on "Multiagent systems, Artificial Societies, and Simulated Organizations" (Kluwer) and an editorial board member of several international journals. My professional engagement has also included knowledge transfer activities and industrial cooperations.
